The Order of Preachers would be, one might think, an Order of ongoing activity outside the confines of the cloister. We have seen that preaching must first be based upon a life of prayer. Study is also one of the interior foundations on which our preaching is built.

Founded as we were in times of misunderstandings regarding the Catholic faith, study of that faith has been critical since the beginning of the Order. Preaching that is based on solid understanding of our faith and that expounds it is really why we were founded. Doctrinal preaching is thus the hallmark of Dominican preaching, bringing home to people, for example, the reality of God’s closeness to us in Jesus Christ through the incarnation.
