Dominican Vocations - Personal Prayer
|
Personal prayer in the form of at least 30 minutes meditation daily is part of the regimen of every Dominican. The more formal liturgical prayer and rosary are all tightly defined and mostly composed of texts from Sacred Scripture. Personal prayer opens up the space and time to pray as we need to at any point in our lives. It also gives us the opportunity to digest more fully what we have heard and proclaimed in the sacred liturgy, and to allow God to speak to us in the quiet of our hearts, away from the movement and occasional business of the liturgy. This time of personal prayer also allows us to bring our needs, worries, anxieties, as well as our joys and hopes, before the Lord. It is in personal prayer especially that preachers contemplate the divine and begin to prepare in earnest to bring the fruits of their contemplation to others in preaching.
