The tradition of the Church has given us a daily cycle of prayer which sanctifies the day. The Dominican tradition is to celebrate the “hours” of the Divine Office in a solemn way, publicly in our conventual churches. This fuller celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours is a powerful aspect to the spirituality of Dominican life. Proclamation and hearing of God’s Word in Sacred Scripture (the Bible) constitutes most of these celebrations. The Dominican tradition is to combine singing God’s Word recorded in the Bible with prayer that is also physical: standing, bowing, prostrating, etc. Our liturgical tradition takes the whole person into account: mind and body.
