The Mastership in Sacred Theology is to be conferred upon Irish Dominican Fr Paul Murray on Monday 30th January.
Fr Paul made profession as a Dominican in 1967 and was ordained priest in 1973.
He holds a doctorate in English literature from University College, Dublin (Ireland) and teaches spiritual theology at the Angelicum, i.e. Dominican University in Rome (the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas: PUST).
Fr Paul is in fact president of the Institute of Spirituality at the Angelicum, has published many books of spirituality and is in great demand as a preacher of spiritual retreats.
His books have been published by Continuum books (his author page here), Dominican Publications and others. Here is his amazon author page. DominicanFriars.ie mentioned some of his recently published books here.
His talk on the priesthood at the conclusion of the Year for Priests, here on YouTube.
The Master General of the Dominicans carried out the promotion with the unanimous agreement of his council on 20th September last.
The rare honour of being promoted to Master in Sacred Theology is granted only to friars of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans) who have made significant contributions to theology. It is given in part also to encourage them to continue their labours.
The ceremony for creating of a Master of Sacred Theology will take place in St Mary's Priory, Main Street, Tallaght, Dublin 24, and will be followed by Fr Paul's inaugural lecture which will also be the annual Aquinas lecture at St Mary's.
All are welcome to attend these events which begin at 7.30pm. Admission is free.
